-თვის
For
Add -თვის to the genitive to say for someone or something.
How It Works
| Word | Genitive | With -თვის |
|---|---|---|
| დედა | დედის | დედისთვის (for mom) |
| ბავშვი | ბავშვის | ბავშვისთვის (for the child) |
| ნინო | ნინოს | ნინოსთვის (for Nino) |
| მე | ჩემი | ჩემთვის (for me) |
| შენ | შენი | შენთვის (for you) |
Use -თვის for the person who gets something: ეს საჩუქარი შენთვის არის (this present is for you).
The endings -ში, -ზე and -თან start from the dative. -თვის starts from the genitive, which is why you see -ისთვის so often. Do not add it to the dictionary form: the genitive always comes first.
To ask for whom, use ვისთვის: ვისთვის არის ეს? (Who is this for?)
