როგორც ..., ისე
Both ... and
როგორც ..., ისე means both ... and: როგორც ბავშვებს, ისე უფროსებს (both children and adults).
How It Works
როგორც ..., ისე (rogorts ..., ise) joins two parts that are equally true. English says both ... and, or ... as well as ...:
- როგორც ბავშვებს, ისე უფროსებს უყვართ ეს ზღაპარი. (Both children and adults love this fairy tale.)
Both parts take the same case, because they do the same job. In this example both are in the dative, since უყვართ (they love) is a feeling verb. With places, both take -ში:
- ეს სიმღერა იციან როგორც სვანეთში, ისე კახეთში. (People know this song in both Svaneti and Kakheti.)
The pattern is a little formal and common in writing. ასევე (also) can take the place of ისე: როგორც თბილისში, ასევე ბათუმში.
In speech, -ც on both parts with და often does the same job: ბავშვებსაც და უფროსებსაც უყვართ.
