Numbers in Other Cases
A number before a noun changes like an adjective.
How It Works
A number in front of a noun follows the same rules as an adjective. The noun stays singular, and the number changes with the case:
| Case | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| nominative | ორი ბავშვი | two children |
| ergative | ორმა ბავშვმა | two children, as doers |
| dative | ორ ბავშვს | to two children |
| genitive | ორი ბავშვის | of two children |
| with -ზე, -ში | სამ საათზე, ხუთ წუთში | at three o'clock, in five minutes |
So for times you say სამ საათზე (at three), and for durations ხუთ წუთში (in five minutes). The -ი of the number drops.
Before a genitive, the number keeps its -ი: ორი დღის შემდეგ (after two days).
Before a noun, რვა (eight) and ცხრა (nine) never change, because they end in -ა: რვა საათზე (at eight), რვა ბავშვმა (eight children, as doers).
Examples (5)

I'll come at three o'clock.
სამი becomes სამ before საათზე.
- ორმა ბავშვმა ერთად იმღერა.
Two children sang together.
ორმა agrees with ბავშვმა.
- ხუთ წუთში დავბრუნდები.

ხუთი becomes ხუთ before წუთში.
- ორი დღის შემდეგ ბათუმში წავალთ.
In two days we'll go to Batumi.
Before a genitive, ორი keeps its -ი.

I speak three languages.
სამ before ენაზე.
