No Plural After Numbers
After a number, ბევრი or რამდენი, the noun stays singular.
How It Works
| English | Georgian |
|---|---|
| two children | ორი ბავშვი |
| three books | სამი წიგნი |
| five friends | ხუთი მეგობარი |
| many books | ბევრი წიგნი |
| how many children? | რამდენი ბავშვი? |
English adds -s after a number, and Georgian does not. It feels odd at first, so say the pairs aloud until they sound right.
The verb is singular as well: ორი ბავშვი სახლში არის (two children are at home). You will learn more about this at Level 2.
Without a number, use the plural as usual: ბავშვები სახლში არიან (the children are at home).
ერთი (one) works the same way: ერთი წიგნი (one book).
