მო-...-ო (Greenish, Reddish)

-ish Colors

Level 6Sounds Like mo-...-o

მო-...-ო turns a color or taste word into an -ish word: მომწვანო (greenish), მოწითალო (reddish).

How It Works

To say a color or a taste is only partly there, Georgian frames the word with მო- and -ო (mo-...-o):

Word-ish form
მწვანე (green)მომწვანო (greenish)
ლურჯი (blue)მოლურჯო (bluish)
თეთრი (white)მოთეთრო (whitish)
წითელი (red)მოწითალო (reddish)
ყვითელი (yellow)მოყვითალო (yellowish)
მჟავე (sour)მომჟავო (a little sour)
ტკბილი (sweet)მოტკბო (sweetish)

Most words just drop their last vowel. Some change inside, so learn them as pairs: წითელი and ყვითელი give მოწითალო and მოყვითალო, and ტკბილი gives მოტკბო.

A few shape words work the same way: გრძელი (long) gives მოგრძო (longish).

The -ish word ends in a vowel, so it stays the same before a noun in every case: მოთეთრო პერანგი (a whitish shirt), მოთეთრო პერანგით (in a whitish shirt).
