მქვია
My Name Is
მქვია means my name is; literally, I am called.
How It Works
| English | Georgian |
|---|---|
| my name is | მქვია |
| your name is (one friend) | გქვია |
| his or her name is | ჰქვია |
| your name is (polite) | გქვიათ |
| their names are | ჰქვიათ |
A first meeting often goes like this: რა გქვია? (What's your name?) მე ნინო მქვია. შენ? (My name is Nino. And you?) გიორგი. (Giorgi.)
You can also say ჩემი სახელი ნინო არის (my name is Nino), but მქვია is the everyday way.
Places and things work the same way: რა ჰქვია? (What is it called?)
There is no ვ- and no ვარ in მქვია: the მ- at the front already says my.
