ოცი/ოცდა-
Counting by Twenties
Georgian counts in twenties: 30 is twenty and ten, and 40 is two twenties.
How It Works
| Number | Georgian | Built as |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | ოცი otsi | twenty |
| 21 | ოცდაერთი | twenty and one |
| 30 | ოცდაათი | twenty and ten |
| 40 | ორმოცი | two twenties |
| 50 | ორმოცდაათი | two twenties and ten |
| 60 | სამოცი | three twenties |
| 70 | სამოცდაათი | three twenties and ten |
| 80 | ოთხმოცი | four twenties |
| 90 | ოთხმოცდაათი | four twenties and ten |
| 99 | ოთხმოცდაცხრამეტი | four twenties and nineteen |
To build any number below 100, take the twenties, add -და- (and), then a number from one to nineteen: 45 is ორმოცდახუთი, two twenties and five.
A twenty that stands alone ends in -ი: ოცი, ორმოცი. When a smaller number follows, the -ი drops and -და- comes in. The whole number is written as one word.
