ან means or in statements.

How It Works

Use ან between two or more options:

  • ჩაი ან ყავა (tea or coffee);
  • ხვალ ან ზეგ (tomorrow or the day after);
  • ერთი ან ორი (one or two).

When you ask someone to choose one thing, use თუ: ჩაი გინდა თუ ყავა? (Do you want tea or coffee?) ან is for statements, where either choice is fine.

To say either ... or, put ან before each choice: ან ჩაი, ან ყავა (either tea or coffee). You will learn this at Level 3.

ან never changes, and it can join any kind of word: nouns, numbers, places or whole sentences.

    Tea or coffee.

    ან between two choices.

  2. ერთი ან ორი ყავა.

    One or two coffees.

    ან between two numbers.

  3. ნინო ახლა სახლში ან სამსახურში არის.

    Nino is at home or at work now.

    Either place is possible.

  4. ხვალ ან ზეგ მოვდივარ.

    I'm coming tomorrow or the day after.

    ან between two days.

  5. ხინკალი ან ხაჭაპური მინდა.

    I want khinkali or khachapuri.

    Either one is fine.
