-ად (Adverbs)

Adverbs in -ად

Level 2Sounds Like ad

Add -ად to an adjective stem to say how something is done: სწრაფი becomes სწრაფად (quickly).

How It Works

An adverb tells you how something is done. Georgian makes most adverbs from adjectives with the ending -ად, the adverbial case.

AdjectiveAdverb
კარგი (good)კარგად (well)
ცუდი (bad)ცუდად (badly)
სწრაფი (fast)სწრაფად (quickly)
ლამაზი (beautiful)ლამაზად (beautifully)
სწორი (correct)სწორად (correctly)
მშვიდი (calm)მშვიდად (calmly)

The adverb usually goes right before the verb: სწრაფად დადის (walks fast).

With ვარ (I am), these words describe how you feel: კარგად ვარ (I'm well), ცუდად ვარ (I feel unwell).

A few common words do not follow the rule. Slowly is ნელა, and fast in speech is often ჩქარა.
