plej
The Most
Plej means most or -est.
How It Works
| Esperanto | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Ŝi estas la plej alta el ni. | She is the tallest of us. |
| la plej bela urbo en Eŭropo | the most beautiful city in Europe |
| Kofi kuras plej rapide. | Kofi runs fastest. |
Before a noun, the highest degree often has la, because there is only one winner: la plej juna infano. The adjective agrees with the noun as always.
Use el to name the group the winner belongs to, and en to name a place. Do not use ol after plej, because ol belongs to pli.
The opposite is malplej (least).
