Ĉia is an adjective, so it agrees with its noun (ĉiaj, ĉiajn). Ĉies is usually used for people and replaces la. The others never take -j or -n.

Real texts use ĉiel only now and then, and ĉial is almost never used, so recognize them but do not worry about using them yourself.

Examples (5)

  1. Mi havas ĉiajn librojn.

I have all kinds of books.

Ĉiajn agrees with librojn in -j and -n.

  2. Ili ĉiel helpis al mi.

They helped me in every way.

    Ĉiel means in every manner.

  3. Mi volas ĉiom, kiom vi havas.

I want all that you have.

Ĉiom is the whole amount, and kiom starts the second part.

  4. Ĉies okuloj rigardas la scenejon.

Everyone's eyes are looking at the stage.

Ĉies stands before okuloj and replaces la.

  5. Kial vi ŝatas Esperanton? Ĉial!

Ĉial answers kial with every reason.

Common Mistakes

  • Leaving the agreement off ĉia.

    Mi havas ĉia librojn.
    Mi havas ĉiajn librojn.

Ĉia is an adjective, so it takes -j and -n with librojn.
