ĉio, ĉiu, ĉie, ĉiam
Everything, Everyone, Everywhere, Always
The ĉi- words cover every thing, person, place and time.
How It Works
| Word | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ĉio | everything | Mi scias ĉion. |
| ĉiu | everyone, each | Ĉiu laboras. |
| ĉie | everywhere | Ĉie estas varme. |
| ĉiam | always | Kofi ĉiam ridas. |
Use ĉiu with a singular noun when you think of each one separately: ĉiu infano (each child). Use ĉiuj with a plural noun for the whole group together: ĉiuj infanoj (all the children).
Ĉio takes -n and normally not -j. Ĉie can take -n to show movement: ĉien (to everywhere).
Words that describe ĉio come after it: ĉio bona (everything good), and as an object ĉion bonan.
Examples (5)

Common Mistakes
Leaving -n off ĉio as an object.
Mi scias ĉio.Mi scias ĉion.Ĉio takes -n as the object of scias.
Mixing a singular and a plural.
Ĉiu infanoj ludas.Ĉiuj infanoj ludas.Infanoj is plural, so it goes with ĉiuj. With ĉiu, use a singular noun: ĉiu infano.
