haver-hi (invariable)

Invariant Existential Haver-hi

Level 6

Keep formal haver-hi singular in simple and compound tenses, while recognizing regional agreement.

How It Works

Present hi ha becomes past hi havia or hi va haver and perfect hi ha hagut. The first ha in hi ha hagut is the auxiliary; hagut is the participle. Do not omit either part because the present form also contains ha.

For an edited formal document, use the consolidated singular pattern hi ha tres esmenes, hi havia molts dubtes and hi hauria hagut incidències. This is a register choice supported by formal usage. Plural existential forms occur in several regional spoken systems, especially in modal or auxiliary combinations, so do not present their speakers as lacking number agreement. The model here gives a coherent formal baseline while acknowledging that distribution.

Examples (3)
