haver-hi (existencial formal)
Haver-hi in Formal Existentials
Keep existential hi with haver through compound tenses and modal constructions.
How It Works
Present hi ha becomes past hi havia or hi va haver and perfect hi ha hagut. The first ha in hi ha hagut is the auxiliary; hagut is the participle. Do not omit either part because the present form also contains ha.
In a report, choose a time frame and retain it across existential statements: hi havia describes an existing past situation, hi va haver presents an occurrence, and hi ha hagut relates an occurrence to the present. The edited singular model remains useful with large plural quantities. Do not turn hi ha hagut cinc incidències into an agreeing plural solely because incidències is plural; regional speech and formal reporting have different distributions.
