Weak Pronouns before Finite Verbs
Weak pronouns normally precede a finite verb in statements and questions.
How It Works
El veig and hi anem put the pronoun immediately before the finite verb. If several words occur earlier in the sentence, the pronoun still stays with the verbal group: demà el veurem. A negative no comes before the pronoun.
In a compound tense, the finite auxiliary is the host: l'he vist, no ho havia entès. Do not place a free-standing object pronoun between the auxiliary and participle. With certain infinitive or gerund groups, a following attachment is also possible.
Affirmative imperatives are an important exception: mira'l, not el mira when directly commanding tu to look at it. Negative commands return to preverbal pronouns: no el miris. Learn placement from the verb form and construction rather than from the object's meaning alone.
