haver-hi + Plural Noun
Plural Nouns After Hi Ha
In established formal usage, haver-hi stays singular before a plural noun.
How It Works
Use hi ha before the thing you are introducing: hi ha pa, hi ha una botiga. Hi is part of the expression haver-hi; do not drop it just because you also name a place.
The shared formal pattern keeps the verb singular even when the introduced noun is plural: hi havia tres persones and hi haurà moltes preguntes. The number of the noun remains plural; the construction simply does not use ordinary subject agreement in this model.
The IEC records regional plural agreement, including hi han, rather than treating every occurrence as evidence of poor Catalan. Singular nonagreement is the established formal pattern taught here. Apply the same choice in auxiliary groups: hi ha hagut problemes. Do not confuse existential haver-hi with ordinary plural han followed by a participle and a real plural subject.
