en (complement de de)
En for De-complements
En can replace a suitable complement introduced by de, including a topic or a place of origin.
How It Works
Parlem del projecte becomes en parlem when the project is understood. Vinc de Girona can become en vinc, with en representing the departure point. The pronoun's meaning is recovered from the verb and context.
En does not mean that every phrase containing de is freely replaceable. Determine whether the phrase is a complement that the construction allows en to represent. Possessive relations and complex noun phrases can require different analysis.
Place en before a finite verb or attach it after an infinitive: en vull parlar or vull parlar-ne. Before a vowel-initial finite verb it may elide, as in n'hem parlat. Distinguish this complement use from partitive en with a quantity, where a number or quantifier often stays overt.

- Vinc de Girona; en vinc ara mateix.

- No vull parlar-ne.
