Verb/Noun/Adjective + de
Government with De
Learn de as part of the construction selected by a verb, noun or adjective.
How It Works
Parlar de, recordar-se de and tenir ganes de require a de relationship in their ordinary patterns. It is not chosen by translating a neighboring English preposition word for word. Learn the whole expression with a short example.
Before an infinitive, keep de where the construction calls for it: tinc ganes de sortir, s'ha oblidat de trucar. Elide it before a vowel: ganes d'arribar. Before a finite que clause, formal Catalan often drops such a preposition, as in m'alegro que hagis vingut; that clause pattern needs separate attention.
An understood suitable de-complement can be represented by en: parlem del tema, en parlem. Do not confuse a governed complement with every possessive de phrase inside a noun. The verb or expression's grammatical pattern determines what can be replaced.
