လိုက်တာ
How Nice!
Add နော် to bring the listener in: ချစ်စရာကောင်းလိုက်တာနော်။ (Isn't she cute!)
How It Works
In Burmese, describing words work like verbs. Put လိုက်တာ after one and it becomes "How …!" or "So …!".
| Describing word | With လိုက်တာ | English |
|---|---|---|
| လှ | လှလိုက်တာ။ | How beautiful! |
| ပူ | ပူလိုက်တာ။ | It's so hot! |
| ပင်ပန်း | ပင်ပန်းလိုက်တာ။ | I'm so tired! |
| စားလို့ကောင်း | စားလို့ကောင်းလိုက်တာ။ | This is so tasty! |
| ချစ်စရာကောင်း | ချစ်စရာကောင်းလိုက်တာ။ | How cute! |
It is used for strong feelings, good or bad: ကြာလိုက်တာ (That took so long!).
An exclamation with လိုက်တာ has no negative form. For "How boring!", pick a word that already means it: ပျင်းစရာကောင်းလိုက်တာ.
A plain sentence with အရမ်း says the same fact more calmly: အရမ်းလှတယ် (It's very beautiful).
Say it the moment you feel something, such as when you taste the food or step out into the heat. A friend often agrees with ဟုတ်တယ် (Yes, it is) or says the same word back.
