အရမ်း / သိပ်မ…ဘူး

Very and Not Very

Level 2

For "too", put လွန်း after the verb: စပ်လွန်းတယ်။ (It's too spicy.)

How It Works

Describing words are verbs in Burmese, so "very" goes before the verb.

VeryNot very
အရမ်းပူတယ်။ It's very hot.သိပ်မပူဘူး။ It's not very hot.
အရမ်းဝေးတယ်။ It's very far.သိပ်မဝေးဘူး။ It's not very far.
အရမ်းကြိုက်တယ်။ I really like it.သိပ်မကြိုက်ဘူး။ I don't like it much.

For "not very", the order is သိပ် + မ + verb + ဘူး. The မ goes right before the verb.

သိပ် also means "very" in a positive sentence, as in သိပ်ချစ်တယ်။ (I love you so much.) Its most common use is with a negative.

For "a little", use နည်းနည်း: နည်းနည်းစပ်တယ်။ (It's a little spicy.)

For "too", put လွန်း after the verb: ဒီဟင်း စပ်လွန်းတယ်။ (This curry is too spicy.)

တကယ် (really) also adds strength: တကယ် ကောင်းတယ်။ (It's really good.)
