လိုက်

Doing It Right Away

Level 3

In a request, လိုက်ပါ sounds friendly and quick: တံခါးပိတ်လိုက်ပါ။ (Shut the door, please.)

How It Works

လိုက် gives a verb the feeling of "just do it" or "done". The action is quick, and it is finished.

FormEnglish
ဝယ်လိုက်ပြီ။I went ahead and bought it.
အလုပ်ထွက်လိုက်ပြီ။I've quit my job.
ပြောလိုက်တယ်။I went and told him.
ဖွင့်လိုက်ပါ။Go ahead and turn it on.

Use it for one action at a time. For habits, use the plain verb: နေ့တိုင်း ကော်ဖီသောက်တယ် (I drink coffee every day).

Alone, လိုက် is a full verb that means "follow" or "come along": ကျွန်မလည်း လိုက်မယ် (I'll come too).

After a describing word, လိုက်တာ makes an exclamation: လှလိုက်တာ (How beautiful!). That is its own pattern.

With ပြီ, လိုက် reports a choice already made: ဝယ်လိုက်ပြီ (I went ahead and bought it). With ပါ, it gently pushes the listener to act now: စားလိုက်ပါ (Go ahead and eat).
