ကြောင့်
Because of Something
ခင်ဗျားကြောင့် or ရှင့်ကြောင့် can mean "thanks to you" or "because of you".
How It Works
ကြောင့် names the cause of something. The cause comes first, then the result.
| Cause | Result | English |
|---|---|---|
| မိုးကြောင့် | နောက်ကျသွားတယ်။ | I was late because of the rain. |
| အပူကြောင့် | အိပ်မပျော်ဘူး။ | I can't sleep because of the heat. |
| ဖျားနေတာကြောင့် | မလာနိုင်ဘူး။ | I can't come because I have a fever. |
A noun takes ကြောင့် straight away. A verb first becomes a noun with တာ. For a verb, speakers also say ဖျားနေလို့, which is shorter and very common.
With a person, ကြောင့် can be good or bad: ခင်ဗျားကြောင့် (thanks to you) or ကျွန်မကြောင့်ပါ (it's my fault). The situation makes it clear.
Do not confuse it with အကြောင်း (about). Writing uses သောကြောင့် after a verb.
To ask for a cause, say ဘာကြောင့်လဲ။ (Why?) The answer can be just the cause: မိုးကြောင့်ပါ။ (Because of the rain.)
