के अलावे means besides or other than.

How It Works

के अलावे has two meanings that depend on the sentence.

  • Except: हमरा अलावे सभे जानेला. (Everyone knows except me.)
  • Besides: दाल के अलावे चोखा आ भात बनल बा. (Besides dal, there is chokha and rice.)

A noun uses के: एतवार के अलावे. Pronouns do not add के.

The same phrase works in questions and negatives: तोहरा अलावे केहू ना आइल (nobody came except you). Both uses share one form, so the rest of the sentence tells you which meaning is meant.
