खाइ लेब

Doing It for Yourself: लेब

Level 3Sounds Like khā'i lēba

लेब after the -इ form shows an action done for yourself, or taken in fully.

How It Works

लेब means "take". After the -इ form it shows the doer gets the benefit: eating up, taking along, keeping for oneself.

FormMeaning
खाइ लिहिसhe ate it up
सोइ लिहिसshe had a sleep
उठाइ लेवpick it up (for yourself)
लइ लेबI will take it

Compare देब, which sends the benefit to someone else (लिखि देव, write it for me), with लेब, which keeps it with the doer (लिखि लेव, write it down for yourself).

Both helpers use the same pattern: the -इ form, then the helper in the right person. The past forms of लेब are लिहिस, लिहेन, लिहेव, लिहिन.
