चाय-वाय
Echo Words: चाय-वाय
Repeating a word with व- at the start means that and the like.
How It Works
Awadhi uses echo words for a casual "and so on". The echo is the same word with the first sound swapped for व.
| Word | Echo | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| चाय | चाय-वाय | tea or something |
| रोटी | रोटी-वोटी | bread and the like |
| किताब | किताब-विताब | books and so on |
| सब्जी | सब्जी-वब्जी | vegetables and such |
The echo word has no meaning of its own. It makes the speaker sound easy-going, as if the exact thing does not matter.
Use it among friends and family, not in writing or with elders you do not know. Each echoed word works as one noun, and a verb follows it as usual.
