आपन
One's Own: आपन
आपन means one's own and points back to the subject.
How It Works
आपन means own. It tells the listener that the owner is the same person as the subject.
| Sentence | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ऊ आपन किताब पढ़त अहै। | She reads her own book. |
| ऊ ओकर किताब पढ़त अहै। | She reads someone else's book. |
The first sentence makes the owner clear. In the second, ओकर points to a different person.
आपन does not change for person or noun: हम आपन किताब पढ़ब, तुम आपन काम करौ. Before घरे it is usually अपने: अपने घरे (at one's own home). Before a noun with a postposition you will hear both: अपने घर मा (in one's own house), आपन पुरान सहेली से.
It is common with family and home words: आपन गाँव, आपन लोग.
