गिरि परब

Suddenly: परब

Level 3Sounds Like giri paraba

परब after the -इ form shows something that happens suddenly.

How It Works

परब (the Hindi पड़ना) normally means "fall" or "lie". After the -इ form it shows an action that starts suddenly and strongly.

FormMeaning
गिरि पराfell down
रोइ परीshe burst into tears
हँसि परेthey burst out laughing
चौंकि परेनI jumped in surprise

परब agrees with the person: परा for a man or masculine noun, परी for a woman or feminine noun, परे for several or respect, परेन for हम.

The pattern fits sudden reactions and falls. It is not for plans, habits or slow changes. For something that begins gradually, use -ै लागब (रोवै लाग, started to cry).
