-ै लागब

Starting to: -ै लागब

Level 3Sounds Like ̔ai lāgaba

-ै plus लागब means start to do something.

How It Works

To say that an action began, use the purpose form and then लागब (to begin).

WhoForm
ऊ (masculine)रोवै लाग
ऊ (feminine)रोवै लागी
ऊ (several, respect)रोवै लागे
हमरोवै लागेन

A verb whose -त form has व keeps it before -ै: रोवत gives रोवै, as आवत gives आवै. A vowel stem without व, as in होत and जात, ends in -य: होय, जाय. The first verb stays the same for everyone. Only लागब shows who and when.

Compare the pattern with गिरि परब. A -ै लागब action begins and then goes on (the child began to cry and kept crying). A परब action is a quick burst (the child burst into tears).

For an action that keeps going, use -त रहत अहै. This pattern only marks the starting point.
