बिना -ए

Without Doing: बिना

Level 4Sounds Like binā -ē

बिना before the -ए form of a verb means without doing something.

How It Works

बिना with a noun means "without": चीनी के बिना. With a verb, बिना needs the -ए form, which names the missing action.

Verb-ए formWith बिना
बताउबबताएबिना बताए
पूछबपूछेबिना पूछे
खाबखाएबिना खाए
सोचबसोचेबिना सोचे

The बिना phrase usually comes before the main verb: ऊ बिना बताए चलि गवा. It can be the subject of a sentence too, with the verbal noun in -ब.

Use the same -ए form after बिना for every verb, however many people are involved. Only the main verb changes for the doer.

Do not use the joining form (-इ) here. बताइ means "having told"; बिना asks for बताए.
