तुम्हार / तोहार
Your: तुम्हार and तोहार
तुम्हार is your for तुम, and तोहार is your for तू.
How It Works
These two words fit the two ways of saying you.
| You | Your | Before a postposition |
|---|---|---|
| तुम | तुम्हार | तुम्हरे |
| तू | तोहार | तोहरे |
तुम्हार नाँव का अहै? (What is your name?) is for a friend or a person your age. तोहार नाँव का अहै? is for a child or a very close friend.
In central speech the words do not change for the noun that follows them. तुम्हार किताब and तुम्हार बहिन both use the same form.
For आप, you will hear आपकर or आपका, and speakers often use a name or title instead, such as चाचा जी कै घर. Some eastern speakers use तोहार for तुम too, but the lessons keep the two apart.
