এজন / দুজন
Counting People with -জন
Number plus -জন counts people: সি এজন ল’ৰা “he is a boy”.
How It Works
-জন is the classifier for people. It goes with a number, and the person word follows.
| Number | With -জন | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | এজন | এজন মানুহ “a man, a person” |
| 2 | দুজন | দুজন মানুহ “two people” |
| 3 | তিনিজন | তিনিজন ল’ৰা “three boys” |
এজন also works like “a” or “an” before a person: মই এজন শিক্ষক “I am a teacher”.
Use -জন for a man or when the sex of the person does not matter. For a woman or a girl, use -জনী, which is the next row.
Bigger numbers follow the same plan: চাৰিজন “four people”, পাঁচজন “five people”.
