-ও
Also: -ও
-ও is “also”: ময়ো যাব বিচাৰোঁ “I also want to go”, where ময়ো is মই with -ও.
How It Works
The ending -ও says that something is true of this word as well.
| Word | With -ও | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| মই | ময়ো | I also |
| তুমি | তুমিও | you also |
| তাই | তায়ো | she also |
| ৰফিকুলে | ৰফিকুলেও | Rafiqul also |
A word that ends in the letter ই, such as মই and তাই, changes it to য় before -ও. You may also see মইও and তাইও in print, but they are less common.
In ময়ো সুখী “I am happy too”, someone else has already said that they are happy, and -ও adds “me” to them.
The ending is written as part of the word, with no space.
In a negative sentence the meaning is “not … either”: এইটোও বেয়া নহয় “this one is not bad either”. The ending stays at the end of the same word.
