-ish maqsadida

With the Aim of

Level 5

Verb + -ish + maqsadida = with the aim of, in order to (formal): tajriba almashish maqsadida (in order to exchange experience).

How It Works

1. Building the phrase
Turn the verb into its -(i)sh verb noun, keep its object and details in front of it, and add maqsadida:

  • almash- → tajriba almashish maqsadida (in order to exchange experience)
  • mustahkamla- → sogʻliqni mustahkamlash maqsadida (in order to improve health)
  • taʼminla- → xavfsizlikni taʼminlash maqsadida (to ensure safety)

The ending on maqsad is part of the phrase: maqsad + -i (its) + -da (in). After a verb noun it is always maqsadida.

2. For this purpose: shu maqsadda
After a pointing word, a question word or a describing word, the -i drops: shu maqsadda (for this purpose), ezgu maqsadda (with a good aim), Nima maqsadda keldingiz? (What have you come for?)

3. Formal or everyday?
In everyday speech, use -ish uchun: Ish topish uchun Toshkentga keldim (I came to Tashkent to find work). -ish maqsadida belongs to reports, speeches and official texts, often with a passive verb such as oʻtkazildi (was held) or qurilmoqda (is being built). Even the Constitution uses it, in Article 14: inson farovonligini va jamiyatning barqaror rivojlanishini taʼminlash maqsadida (in order to ensure people's well-being and the steady development of society).

4. Relatives
-ish niyatida (with the intention of) works the same way but talks about a person's plan. Other formal phrases often keep it company, such as munosabati bilan and doirasida.

    Tajriba almashish maqsadida uchrashuv oʻtkazildi.

After a verb noun, maqsad needs its -i: maqsadida. The short form maqsadda comes after words like shu, nima or ezgu (good).

  • Adding uchun as well as maqsadida.

Ish topish uchun maqsadida poytaxtga keldi.
    Ish topish maqsadida poytaxtga keldi.

Uchun and maqsadida both state the goal. Use one of them: ish topish uchun or ish topish maqsadida.
