tagida / ostida
Under
tag and ost both name the underside. With -i and -da they mean under: Mushuk stol tagida (The cat is under the table).
How It Works
Like ustida, these are nouns with endings, placed after the noun they describe:
- tag + -i + -da → tagida: stol tagida (under the table), karavot tagida (under the bed).
- ost + -i + -da → ostida: koʻprik ostida (under the bridge), daraxt ostida (under a tree).
Which one? For things you can see and touch, both are correct, and tagida is the more everyday word. ostida is the one used in fixed phrases such as nazorat ostida (under control) and rahbarligi ostida (under the leadership of). Do not swap tagida into those phrases.
Movement. Change only the last ending: Toʻp stol tagiga kirdi (The ball went under the table), Toʻpni stol tagidan oldim (I took the ball from under the table). See koʻmakchi ot + kelishik.
tag alone also means the bottom of something: qozonning tagi (the bottom of the pot).
