Statement first, then negaki or zero with the reason: U jim qoldi, negaki haqiqatni bilardi (He stayed silent, for he knew the truth).
How It Works
The order. Say what happened first. Then give the reason with negaki or zero, just as with chunki:
- U jim qoldi, negaki haqiqatni bilardi. (He stayed silent, for he knew the truth.)
- Sogʻligʻingizga eʼtibor bering. Zero, sogʻlik — eng katta boylik. (Take care of your health. For health is the greatest wealth.)
Commas. Inside one sentence, put a comma before negaki. When negaki or zero opens a new sentence, put a comma after it: Negaki, ... and Zero, ....
Everyday words. Both words are literary. In everyday speech, use chunki, or put -gani uchun on the verb and give the reason first: Haqiqatni bilgani uchun jim qoldi (He stayed silent because he knew the truth).
Cause, not result. Negaki and zero give a cause. To give a result, use shuning uchun or the bookish binobarin.
Not the number. The number 0 is nol in Uzbek. Zero is only this linking word.

Negaki opens a new sentence, so a comma follows it.
- Sogʻligʻingizga eʼtibor bering. Zero, sogʻlik — eng katta boylik.

- Bolalarga kitob oʻqishni erta oʻrgatish kerak. Zero, kitob — bilim manbai.
Children should be taught to read books early. For books are a source of knowledge.

Common Mistakes
Putting the negaki clause first.
Negaki haqiqatni bilardi, u jim qoldi.U jim qoldi, negaki haqiqatni bilardi.Like chunki, negaki opens the second clause. To put the reason first, use -gani uchun: Haqiqatni bilgani uchun jim qoldi.
Using zero for a result (meant: she studied a lot, so she passed the exam).
U koʻp oʻqidi, zero imtihondan oʻtdi.U koʻp oʻqidi, shuning uchun imtihondan oʻtdi.Zero gives a reason, not a result. For a result, use shuning uchun.
