کا / کی / کے (Omitted Noun)

Possessive Forms with an Omitted Noun

Level 5

The noun is unspoken → its agreement remains.

How It Works

When a noun has just been mentioned, Urdu can avoid repeating it after a possessive. یہ کتاب میری ہے identifies the book as mine; another clause can simply say وہ آپ کی.

The possessive keeps the gender, number, and case appropriate to the understood possession. میری can refer to a book owned by a male speaker, and میرے can refer to masculine plural belongings.

If the omitted item is unclear, name it. Agreement helps recover a noun, but it does not tell the listener everything about an unknown object.

Examples (4)

  1. یہ قلم میرا ہے، وہ آپ کا۔

This pen is mine; that one is yours.

The omitted masculine singular قلم keeps آپ کا.

  2. یہ کتاب میری ہے، وہ بلال کی۔

This book is mine; that one is Bilal’s.

The feminine book controls both possessive endings.

  3. میرے جوتے یہاں ہیں، تمہارے کہاں ہیں؟

My shoes are here; where are yours?

تمہارے refers to the understood masculine plural shoes.

  4. ہم اپنے گھر سے نکلے اور مریم کے پہنچ گئے۔

We left our house and arrived at Maryam’s.

مریم کے refers to her understood home in a location expression.
