Separate absence across places from absence across times.

How It Works

In میں کہیں نہیں گیا, the speaker denies going anywhere in the relevant interval. In میں کبھی وہاں نہیں گیا, کبھی extends the denial across occasions.

The time range comes from context. A statement about one day does not automatically describe someone’s entire life.

Without negation, کبھی can mean sometime and کہیں can mean somewhere. Repeated کبھی کبھی means sometimes, so keep the whole construction in view.

  1. میں آج کہیں نہیں گیا۔

    I did not go anywhere today.

    آج limits the interval; کہیں concerns place.

  2. مجھے یہ چابی کہیں نہیں ملی۔

    I did not find this key anywhere.

    The speaker did not find the key in any of the relevant places.

  3. مریم کبھی دیر سے نہیں آتی۔

    Maryam never arrives late.

    کبھی with negation denies a habitual occasion.

  4. وہ کبھی یہاں نہیں آئے۔

    They never came here.

    آئے can refer to a group or a respected person.
