How It Works
بجائے اس کے کہ introduces a complete clause, unlike a short postposition phrase such as چائے کی جگہ. It lets you replace an entire action or situation.
A subjunctive commonly appears when the action is proposed or hypothetical. The following main clause supplies the preferred or actual alternative.
The construction does not require the two clauses to have the same subject. Name each participant when changing the actor would otherwise be unclear.
