The four examples use ถึงแม้ว่า for a concession: the other statement is presented despite the introduced situation. Three examples begin with the concession and include ก็ in the following clause; the work example puts the concession after the work statement. Read these actual patterns without requiring one connector in every concession.

How It Works

Read the whole concession. The examples contrast rain with a trip, tiredness with continued work, lack of money with happiness, and spicy food with finishing it. The natural translations select contextual readings; the Thai forms alone do not establish every situation as past, hypothetical or already verified.

The rain, money and food examples include ก็ in the following statement. The work example has no ก็. This comparison identifies the displayed wording, not a universal requirement or omission rule.

Each concession here contains จะ. Read it within the concession rather than automatically translating it as a future event or a guaranteed softener. The examples do not establish a frequency or formality ranking.

The linked ทั้ง ๆ ที่ also concerns contrast. Compare complete clauses in their contexts rather than assigning all existing situations to one expression and all hypothetical situations to another. This lesson treats ถึงแม้ว่า as a complete expression without deriving its history from separate component glosses.

    He continues working although he is very tired.

    The work statement comes first, followed by the tiredness concession. There is no ก็ in this example; it does not establish an omission rule for every clause placed after another statement.

    The translation selects an even-if reading, while happiness is the speaker’s stated response. The linked ทั้ง ๆ ที่ should be compared in its own complete context; the example does not establish a universal hypothetical-versus-factual division.

  4. ถึงแม้ว่าอาหารจะเผ็ด เขาก็ทานจนหมด

    Although the food was spicy, he ate it all.

    The natural translation selects a retrospective meal context. จะ is read within the concession rather than as a promise of future spiciness; its presence does not prove a softer tone. จนหมด describes finishing the food in this statement.

Common Mistakes

  • Missing the requested following-clause ก็ pattern.

    ถึงแม้ว่าเขาจะรวย เขามีความสุข
    ถึงแม้ว่าเขาจะรวย เขาก็มีความสุข

    For this exercise, request the full displayed sentence ถึงแม้ว่าเขาจะรวย เขาก็มีความสุข, including ก็. The alternative omits that requested connector; omission alone does not make every concession incomplete. The wealth and happiness contrast is the speaker’s chosen statement.

  • Replacing the requested rain-clause จะ with ก็.

    เราไปทะเลถึงแม้ว่าฝนก็ตก
    เราไปทะเลถึงแม้ว่าฝนจะตก

    Copy เราไปทะเลถึงแม้ว่าฝนจะตก for the requested trip followed by a rain concession. The alternative places ก็ inside the rain clause instead of จะ and needs a different context. This exercise does not ban ก็ from every mid-sentence concession.
