کتابی که خواندم
Relative Clauses with که
کتابی + که + خواندم → a book identified by what I read.
How It Works
Identify the noun. In کتابی که دیروز خواندم جالب بود, the clause که دیروز خواندم identifies the book. The ـی on کتابی belongs to this noun construction; it does not force an English translation with a rather than the.
Find both predicates. خواندم is the verb inside the describing clause. جالب بود is the main predicate about the identified book. Reading from the noun to the end of its clause keeps the long noun phrase together.
Add information to a known person. سارا، که در شیراز زندگی میکند، دوست من است already names Sara. The middle clause adds information, while دوست من است supplies the main statement. Commas can help the reader see the boundary.
Compare ezafe. کتابِ جالب links a noun to an adjective; کتابی که خواندم links it to a clause with its own verb. Do not insert an ezafe vowel before که merely because both constructions describe a noun.
