dempuèi que
Since Something Happened
Put dempuèi que before a clause to say since that moment, and keep the present if it still goes on.
How It Works
| Occitan | English |
|---|---|
| dempuèi que soi a Tolosa | since I have been in Toulouse |
| dempuèi que sèm maridats | since we got married |
| dempuèi que Joan trabalha a Albi | since Joan has worked in Albi |
English needs a perfect tense (have lived). Occitan uses the present for an action that began in the past and continues: Demòri aicí dempuèi que sèm maridats.
Do not confuse dempuèi que with ja que. Dempuèi que gives a point in time, and ja que gives a reason.
Before a noun, the shorter dempuèi is enough: dempuèi dos ans (for two years). With a whole clause, add que.
