न ... न
Neither ... nor
न ... न rules out both choices. Put one न before each of them.
How It Works
The word न means neither here and nor. You say it twice, once in front of each thing you rule out.
| Sentence | Meaning |
|---|---|
| उनी न अफिसमा छिन्, न घरमा। | She is neither at the office nor at home. |
| मसँग न पैसा छ, न समय। | I have neither money nor time. |
The two halves can be nouns, adjectives, places or short clauses. Keep the two halves in the same shape: two nouns, two places, or two full clauses.
For a pair of positive choices you use या त ... या. For a pair that can both be true you use र. The word न also appears alone as a plain request, as in आउ न (do come), which is a different use.
