लगायत means including: काठमाडौं लगायत is including Kathmandu and other places.

How It Works

लगायत points to the first item in a list and says that the others follow. The named one is a sample that stands for the group.

The word comes after the first noun: प्रधानाध्यापक लगायत सबै शिक्षक बैठकमा उपस्थित थिए. The group noun comes next and the verb follows.

It is common in news, where a reporter names the main place or person and counts the rest in: दशैं लगायत चाडपर्वमा घर फर्कनेहरू धेरै हुन्छन्.

Use समेत when you mean also or even, and सहित for together with. लगायत is different because it puts the named item inside a bigger group that the sentence goes on to name.

    Many people return home during festivals, including Dashain.

    दशैं is the named festival.
