वाजलेit is that time nowआठ वाजले आहेत.

With वाजता the sentence has its own verb, and the time is a part of it. With वाजले no other verb is needed. For one o'clock the verb is singular: एक वाजला (it is one o'clock).

The question words follow the same split. किती वाजले? means what time is it? किती वाजता? means at what time?

A part of the day goes first when it helps: सकाळी सहा वाजता, रात्री दहा वाजता. Figures can be written in Devanagari: ९ वाजता. In everyday talk, small times are words.

Quarter and half hours have their own words, which the next entry shows.
