घरात means inside the house, and घरी means at home as a place to live.

How It Works

घरी comes from घर, but it is its own word. It needs no more endings.

मी घरी आहे.I am at home.
सई घरी नाही.Sai is not at home.
मी घरी जाते.I go home.

Use घरात for inside the house itself: घरात पाणी आहे. Use घरी for the home as a place where you live.

A person's home is also घरी: आजी घरी आहेत.

Do not say घराला for go home.

You can add the owner: सईच्या घरी (at Sai's home). The last word stays घरी.
