बरे also starts or ends a talk, like all right.

चालेल is the word for plans, times, prices and choices: हा रंग चालेल (this color works).

The negative of चालेल is चालणार नाही: that will not work.

बरे is the written spelling. Writers of chats and dialogue often spell it बरं to show how people speak, and that spelling belongs to the entry on spoken spellings.

ठीक आहे can also be a short answer to How are you? when things are fine.

In a short talk the three can stand together: बरे, ठीक आहे, चालेल. Each says okay in a different way. Say चालेल when you choose a time or a price, ठीक आहे when you accept or check on someone, and बरे when you begin to leave.

    बरे closes a talk.

  4. मला हा रंग चालेल.

    This color is fine with me.

    चालेल says the color suits.

  5. सगळे ठीक आहे ना?

    Is everything okay?

    ठीक आहे says that things are fine.

Common Mistakes

  • Using the Hindi form ठीक है.

    आज मी उशिरा येतो. – ठीक है.
    आज मी उशिरा येतो. – ठीक आहे.

    Marathi says ठीक आहे. है is Hindi.
