-पासून … -पर्यंत
From … to
Each ending can also be used alone, and it stays joined to its word: -पासून gives a start, and -पर्यंत gives an end.
How It Works
The usual order is start, end, verb.
| Start | End | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| सोमवारपासून | शुक्रवारपर्यंत | from Monday to Friday |
| सकाळपासून | संध्याकाळपर्यंत | from morning to evening |
| घरापासून | शाळेपर्यंत | from home to school |
| पुण्यापासून | मुंबईपर्यंत | from Pune to Mumbai |
Each word takes its joining shape first, so घर becomes घरापासून and शाळा becomes शाळेपर्यंत.
Ask about the stretch with कधीपासून कधीपर्यंत? (from when to when?) or कुठपासून कुठपर्यंत? (from where to where?).
Use only -पासून when the end is open: सोमवारपासून शाळा सुरू आहे. Use only -पर्यंत when the start does not matter: रविवारपर्यंत थांबा.
The verb can be any verb: चालू असते (is open), लागतात (it takes), असतो (it lasts).
A negative sentence works the same way: आम्ही सकाळपासून संध्याकाळपर्यंत घरी नसतो. Both endings join their words, and the verb comes last in the usual order.
