Every day name is masculine. Two questions help you ask. आज कोणता वार आहे? asks the day, and आज कोणती तारीख आहे? asks the date.

To say on a day, add -ई: रविवारी. To say on a date, add -ला to the month: १५ ऑगस्टला.

Dates use Devanagari digits: १५ ऑगस्ट, २६ जानेवारी. In Marathi the day number comes before the month name, and the year comes last: १५ ऑगस्ट २०२६.

Use a day together with a part of the day: सोमवारी सकाळी (on Monday morning). A week is आठवडा, a month is महिना and a year is वर्ष. Say आज, उद्या and काल for today, tomorrow and yesterday.

    १५ ऑगस्टला puts the number first and adds -ला.

  4. रविवारी सुट्टी असते.

    There is a holiday on Sunday.

    रविवारी says on Sunday.

  5. आज कोणती तारीख आहे?

    What is the date today?

    तारीख asks for the date.

Common Mistakes

  • Putting the month first.

    माझा वाढदिवस ऑगस्ट १५ ला असतो.
    माझा वाढदिवस १५ ऑगस्टला असतो.

    The day number comes before the month.

  • Adding -ई to say today is a day.

    आज सोमवारी आहे.
    आज सोमवार आहे.

    -ई says on that day. Use the plain name with आहे.
