Level 3Sounds Like madhūna / -tūna

-तून is the everyday form, and -मधून means the same and sounds a little more formal.

How It Works

-तून joins the noun like -त (in): घर becomes घरात (in the house) and घरातून (out of the house). -मधून means the same and sounds a little more formal. Both can mean out of, through or from among.

For a starting point on a map, use -हून or -पासून: पुण्याहून (from Pune). Use -तून when something passes through a place or comes out of a container or a place you were inside.

A noun like बॅग (bag) becomes बॅगे- before -तून, and खिडकी (window) keeps its form: खिडकीतून. Many masculine nouns that end in -ा change to -्या: चष्मा becomes चष्म्यातून. Family words like मामा keep -ा (मामाला), and मुलगा is usually मुलाला. Learners often forget this change, so say the noun with -त first (बॅगेत, in the bag) and then add -ून.

    तो घरातून बाहेर आला.

-पासून names a starting point. -तून says out of the place itself.
