How It Works

The opposite of -खाली is -वर: टेबलावर (on the table) and टेबलाखाली (under the table).

खाली can stand alone and mean down: खाली या (come down), खाली बसा (sit down).

The word can also follow -च्या: टेबलाच्या खाली. Both spellings are correct, so pick one for a phrase and keep it.

-खाली and -वर are opposites, and both answer कुठे? (where?). The same words also name floors: खाली दुकान आहे आणि वर घर आहे (the shop is downstairs and the home is upstairs).

Questions use कुठे too: मांजर कुठे आहे? The answer is मांजर टेबलाखाली आहे.

It fits any noun that has something below it: मांजर खुर्चीखाली बसते (the cat sits under the chair).
